  • Chip Kelly pissed

Per Sheridan he was lighting the team up after the loss. Hope he saved some anger for his shitty goal line calls

Polk should be pissed at Chip for fucking up his First Down (maybe TD) run by not Challenging it. I hate when my boss blames me for shit he fucked up on.

So many fuck-ups, but that one seemed blatantly obvious to challenge. This team is infuriating.

Ted would have challenged it, Ted would have challenged it REAL good.

          You think?

We were sitting right there. Sure as hell looked like a first down to us.

            Its 3rd and Inches

Why wasn't Nick Foles under center for this play? He's 6'6" all he had to do was fall forward.

Why not err on the side of caution & challenge the spot? Worst case you lose a timeout. You win challenge you win game. Still pissed.

This was my beef. I get not challenging the spot...it has to be absolutely crystal clear for them to move the ball, and I'm not certain they would in this situation. They could easily say you can't see his knees well enough to determine when he's down, so you can't change the spot.

Kelly said he didn't sneak because they didn't have success with it one time last season. Besides being a bad reason, the fact that it removes the sneak as a possible play changes how the defense reacts. If they have to defend the sneak, the defense is going to play it differently. Although, Kelly would probably reply that going shotgun with receivers forces the defense to play a more "honest" defense rather than a stacked goal-line look.

I get why he might not sneak behind Molk, though. Dude is pretty small as centers go. I'd like to see Kelly run the actual zone-read with Foles there. Or try to run Shady to the edge rather than between the tackles.

i don't see how chip couldn't have won that challenge. they were in that weird zone where a first down was possible without scoring. had that not been the case, it would have been a wasted timeout to challenge that polk scored on that play, it was indisputable that polk was beyond that first down marker. in that case they would have had 3 chances to let foles forward. i think he could have gotten that regardless of the size of the center.

I agree with you that he got the first. It certainly looked like it. But indisputable visual evidence is tough in that situation: you have to see the knees aren't down and the ball clearly beyond the point you know the theoretical first-down line is (remember, the opposite-side chains were way off, so they weren't actually helpful as they might otherwise be). I didn't hear if any of the ex-refs used by the networks weighed in on it, so maybe it was clear-cut. That said, we've seen plays where Mike Piererra says it'll be overturned and it isn't.

I can totally see the replay guy saying, "Chip, I can't absolutely guarantee you'll get it" and Kelly deciding he'd rather have the timeout in case he has to score again. Which, it turns out, he did.
