  • Interesting QB Comparison re: Eagles vs Sea/NE

    From Paul Domowitch:

Just 10.3% of Brady's pass attempts and 11.5% of Wilson's were 20+ yd throws. By comparison, 19.0% of Foles' and 12.0% of Sanchez's were.
Who would have thought Sanchez threw the ball downfield more than any other QB, let alone two of the higher tier ones...19% for Foles does a lot to explain the high INT numbers. If you're going to throw deep, as the Eagles seem to like to do, it would behoove you to have an over the top threat like a DeSean Jackson.

Now to replace him via FA or Draft? I thought Josh Gordon may be an option but I guess not, f'in dolt that he is..

      Weapons!

Your take way from that is not that two of the best QB's don't need to rely on deep threats but rather Foles needs a deep threat?

        Granted, it's a matter of if it's a QB-oriented tendency or an offense-oriented one.

Haha. Really I wanted to turn it into a TO-vs-McNabb-vs-Reid-vs-Banner Battle Royale of fuckery and fault in the mid-2000's.

McNabb needed (any) weapons and the numbers do not lie, Foles missed Jaccson!

Brady and Wilson have made mediocre WR's look great, but they also run a way different offenses and they have 3X the defense we currently have.

The Seahawks run a read-option offense with a QB capable of effectively running a read-option offense.

How that's possible without DeSean Jackson I'll never understand.

I think it's possible because they have a QB who can actually run.

My original point was, if they keep Foles, and continue to ask him to throw the ball down the field, a downfield playmaker seems like a good thing to have. Maybe that's just me?

Brady went deep all the time when they had Moss, once Moss was gone, that's when the double TE, dink and dunk to Edelman offense took off. The Pats adjusted their O to the players they had. If what DeSean brought to the Eagles wasn't that important, it seems weird to still try to throw passes that were designed for players with his skill set.

Exactly.. and to Sect's point if they are keeping Foles then he needs a deep threat..

I think Chippy goes after Mariota, just hope it doesn't cost us the farm

I firmly believe if you told TerpEagle that the sun rises in the east, he'd tell you it didn't.

I think of a lot of it is just playing Devil's Advocate

I'd like to have a deep threat too, but I think the QB play is more important for the offense.

As you said, Brady has succeeded with or without a deep threat for the most part. Wilson has a cannon but he succeeds without having a deep threat. Maybe it's poor coaching and playcalling on the part of the Eagles to assume that the deep ball would still work without Jackson.

But things I've read about Kelly's offense is that there are multiple options on a given play with receivers different depths to expose the weakness in the defense. If that is the case, then is it more an issue of Foles making the wrong choice and trying to go deep when it's not the best course of action?

Having someone like Jackson would make that option easier for sure, but without him is he still relying on it and is it really necessary.

                            WRONG FOLES MESSED OLINE STARTERS

Patriots run an offense that is similar in a lot of ways --- but like Brady the first 5 or 6 games when he looked like he was a pile of dog shit --- his oline was having issues because of a change in oline coach -- Foles just had to deal with over half of his line being blown up. --- defenders in your face tends to have you throwing off back foot and throwing ints.
