    Jason La Canfora‏ @JasonLaCanfora
Alshon Jeffrey got $7.75m to sign with a $1M base salary. Deal is just $9.5M. Can earn $4.5M in incentives (td, playoff Ws, all pro, etc)

Cap hit is only 9.5.... Genius by Howie. His talent evaluating is definitely questionable but he is fantastic with working out contracts. That means they are tight against the cap but not over.

The genius is in the ability to negotiate a better deal for a top WR free agent while competing against other teams that have much more favoritable cap situations. And all the while structuring both WR contracts for the Eagles that are friend and that have relativelyinsignificant downsides.

Jeffrey is a number two receiver ... and he got paid like one.

You think he wanted to go from Chicago to fucking Minneapolis and Bradford, in his walk year when he needs deep balls thrown to him?

Howlo is the same guy who overpaid Bradford and Daniel and then blew up the 2017 draft to go get Wentz ... who he and Shazam were going to bench in favor of the overpaid Bradford ... and then, lo and behold, Teddy Bridgewater's knee made the Vikings panic because they thought they had a Super Bowl team.

Howlo may be a candidate to replace the leprechaun on the Lucky Charms box, but he's no fucking genius.

Given Chip stripped away our best skill position players when he had control and left us in a precarious cap position when he left, Howie's maneuverings in the aftermath might not be genius, but he has made some surprising and hard to achieve moves.

                No, he isn't. He's a very good 2.

True ones, like Dez Bryant, Beckham Jr., Julio Jones, AJ Green, Antonio Brown, he ain't.

He had some very nice stats when he was playing across from a one (the younger Brandon Marshall) and ran against the second best corner all year.

He's better than anything that was on the Eagles so he's "the" one here, but he's not a true one.

I'm not a total negadelphian ... he's had some nice plays ... but come on ... that shit with Bradford wasn't him running some Chris Moneymaker bluff at Freddie Farha ... it was some tourist from Nebraska playing at the no limit table and hitting an inside straight on the river.

PS - Reports are that Howlo was all in on Chip when they hired him.

Jeffrey is a very good WR who is getting paid $9.5m (Pryor a straight $8m a year) with incentives based on performance. If Jeffrey performs like a number one, he'll get paid like a number one, top level WR this year. If Jeffrey doesn't perform at a high level, he gets paid less. WR1 or WR2 for the Eagles? The one year deal allows the team to find out while Jeffrey proves his worth to the team.

Howie's not a genius, but he's had a hell of a 1+ year run. I think signing Jeffrey to a 1 year incentive contract is a part of this run. The Eagles are competing against teams with significant cap space and Howie at least appears to be a little more creative by bringing in Jeffrey.

A one year deal allows the Eagles to control Jeffrey for two more years with tags- affording them the time and option of signing him to a long term deal or trade him for compensation.

And what if Jeffrey has a really good year and decides to walk next year? Well, he would be worth a good compensatory pick, right? In essence, $14 million would probably buy a 3rd round compensatory pick. Kind of like Houston taking on Osweiller's contract for a second round pick. Remember, the Ravens are typically not players in FA and Howie mentioned working towards that. (Maybe we'll read about this compensatory angle in the Philly press sometime)

                      I can't find a downside to this.

Daniels (overpaid for reason) along with the Bradford signing is more complex. I always contended that Bradford was trade bait from the beginning. Despite the political correctness of supporting Bradford publicly, I believe they had intentions of trading him or at least a potential compensatory pick for him. He was on a one year deal. It worked out better than expected, but Howie but them in that position.

I wanted Howie gone. But from the minute he stepped back onto the scene, he's been performing. Wentz? That's Howie. Bradford trade? That's Howie. Better than expected but he put them in that position with designs of another trade and holding to the what he thought was Bradford's value. I get the element of luck, but come on.

He'd be the 1 on at least half the teams in the NFL - obviously including the Eagles. Great pick-up.
