  • Howie found a way to spend more for a backup QB

So we sign Chase Daniel to an AWFUL contract......he should be thanking Howie everyday....but he's upset and wants cut? Why? He didn't know he would be a rich backup? He thinks he's a starter? Who told him that? So you have this 12 million backup last year for no reason, and 7 million this year...killing us.....So now he has to cut Daniels, which cost 6 million in dead money, and then sign Foles for over 3 million.....So Howie actually found a way to turn an awful 7 million backup QB problem in to a 9 plus million backup QB.......WTF..

That is why I said the other day with the way the league is always looking for "upright" QB's I can't believe he couldn't have traded him and wound up at min. dead money against?

Foles is worth the extra $2,000,000. Unlike Daniels, he could actually step in and win some games in Wentz goes down.

Daniel was brought in as a potential starter. Things were uncertain at the time. Bradford was available to the highest bidder, Wentz was nothing but a gleam in Howie's eye. Having to get rid of Daniel a year into his deal was the best case scenario from the beginning.

Somebody's going to offset a lot of that dead money, it's just a matter of time.

The Matthews and Brooks injuries are seriously tying Howie's hands right ow, more than Daniel's temporarily dead money.

Along that note, is this the first time in their history that they have two starting Qb's that 6'5"?

Bradford wasn't on the block when they signed Daniel.

Signing Daniel on day one on free agency and going balls to the wall to get Wentz kind of indicates that Bradford wasn't in their plans. The team may not have been actively shopping Bradford at that point, but Howie had every intention of finding someone else to play QB.

Not sure I agree 100 percent with

                your police work there, Lou.

They were a long damn way from getting the Browns to do that deal and there was certainly no guarantee of it.

And they sure as hell didn't know Teddy Bridgewater would blow out his knee.

Maybe Howie had Tonya Harding on retainer?

Bradford was on the block before Bridgewater. Denver just didn't meet the asking price. In fact, they helped set his value.

I never said the objective was to get rid of Bradford at all costs. The price was always a first, IMO. Anyone who would have offered that was going to get Bradford.

Bottom line, Howie was looking to the post-Bradford era, probably from the moment he took over.

He wasn't on it until they drafted Wentz.

And, according to Howlo and Shazam, would have been starting ... until Teddy's knee changed everything.

Eagles had already moved from 13 to 8, and then Rams worked a deal with the Titans for the top spot. There were reports the Eagles were trying to work a deal with the Titans, too. Once the Rams trade happened, over the next couple of days most reports speculated the Rams were going to take Wentz. Then the Rams denied it and speculation starting going towards Goff. Then the Eagles jumped to 2.

And then they get "lucky" at 2.

How was he looking post-Bradford from the moment he took over when he paid Bradford all that money?

He just liked him as a person?

The only reason he was able to get rid of him was because of Bridgewater.

When they moved to 8 ... everyone was splooging about Elliot and then he blew up the 2017 draft to take a QB despite a shitload of money invested two-deep at the position.

He gave him the contract because he saw Bradford as an asset he needed to protect, because he didn't want to lose him for nothing. And it worked.

Nothing about that contract suggested he was in the Eagles long term plans.
