  • What to do with a weekend in Philly

Just spent 10 days camping in Michigan with the girlfriend, we had to cut our trip because the weather has been terrible and we are terrible of being wet and cold.

We have some time before we have to go back to work so we wanted to stop in Philadelphia for the weekend before we head back to Florida. Going to be there tonight until Monday morning. I've been several times but my girlfriend has never been so I'm trying to make sure I get the most out of our time there for her. My question is what would you do with the time we have to get the most of it? She's a teacher and always wanted to come to philly for the history, also Places to eat, things to see, and thing beer to drink.

    Thanks, times yours

Edit to add: no pats or genos

Eastern State Prison. Went there about 7 years ago during one of my trips down. Its awesome and if she likes history she'll get her fill of it there.
Canada is like a really nice apartment over a meth lab.

I have clients and business associates that have never been to Philly that come in at different times during the year. I live in NJ and work in Philly 1-2 days a weeks so not a homer but there quite a bit. My suggestions are corny but always a hit with them. They all want to go to and seem to enjoy things we take for granted

        1. Liberty Bell
        2. Independence Hall Area but not the tour
        3. Rittenhouse Square Area
        4. Art Museum Area and the Rocky Statue
        5. Franklin Institute
        6. Also a Phillies game

All old school and boring but if you have never seen any of it, pretty neat and always like the looks on their faces when the see the Liberty Bell

Look up 10 best places to eat in Philadelphia and they have some great restaurants

          Do the guided walking tour

Visits some historic places. We did it with the kids a few years back.
          Pretty cool

Other suggestions were good but I have to add... Reading Terminal Market for lunch.

I actually enjoy the tour at Independence Hall but it is a bit of a time sink. I agree the area is a must visit.

Make sure to hit up Lou Turks

I think we're going to do the eastern state prison and reading terminal tomorrow if the weather permits then See as much of independence hall and the liberty bell and as much of that area as we can sunday.

                Thanks for the advice!

MAKE A RUN DOWNASHORE, OCEAN CITY, WILDWOOD, DO A LITTLE JERSEY BOARDWALK ACTION. .PROBABLY NOT ENOUGH TIME FOR THAT.

OF COURSE THERE'S ALWAYS THE EAGLES SUPER BOWL MUSEUM. SHOULD BE A QUICK VISIT.
                      SORRY, I COULDN'T HELP MYSELF.

Had a great weekend in Philly. Stayed in a decent Airbnb on Washington and S 22nd. Saturday we went to the art museum then took an Uber to reading terminal market and walked down to the independence hall area, one of the national park service guys hooked us up to get on the tour of independence hall. I've done it before but my girlfriend got a huge kick out of it. We ended up around penns landing had a great dinner and then got a surprise firework show.

Yesterday we went down to Jims steaks and walked around the italnian market. Then I took her to see the linc then up to do the tour of eastern state pennitentiary. Super glad we had the time to do it.

Such a great city, so much history, culture, and a great culinary spot. I'm moving out to boulder for grad school when I get out of the navy next week but part of me wishes I was going out to philly. Oh well, the girlfriend loved it so much she's dying to come back and make it to a game this fall so we will be back soon.

                        Thanks for the great advice

Glad you made it to the Italian Market. It's one of my favorite places in the city. Sounds like you fit in a lot of things in in two days

Thank you for not running up the art museum steps. I would have had to hunt you down.
