  • Good Patrick Robinson article in the Athletic

Turns out that helmet throwing episode against the Giants was a Preacher blowing up at halftime in Friday Night Lights moment. Apparently he never talks. Kind of cool. A snip for those without a subscription:

Robinson's teammates describe him as quiet. Jaylen Watkins said he's so quiet that sometimes they have to check on him just to make sure he's OK.

So in Week 15, when the defense was having its worst game of the season against the Giants, everybody was surprised to see Robinson's frustrations boil over on the sideline.Watkins' mom called him after the game and asked him what was up with No. 21 throwing his helmet. Watkins hadn't seen the outburst live and assured his mom that she must have gotten the number wrong. It couldn't have been Robinson showing that kind of emotion.

Later in the week when the clip was shown in the meeting room, Watkins couldn't believe his eyes.

“They pulled it up. I was like, ‘Whoa!' ” Watkins said. “I was surprised because right after, he was just calm. When I came to the sidelines, he was normal Pat.

“He just got emotions riled up, and like I said, he’s a perfectionist. I think a guy caught a ball on him on a slant, and we don’t give up slants so he was fucking frustrated. It was cool to see, actually.”
