  • Punta Cana anyone??

Who's been there? How are the beaches? What resorts to stay and which ones to stay away from

  • #2
Only been to the DR on a cruise and didn't get off the ship. I have an aversion to places where you're told to not go off the resort at night or to an island to which the other half of the island is Haiti. However friends that have been there say the beaches are beautiful
Canada is like a really nice apartment over a meth lab.

Dont know if this is the answer you are looking for, but all my buds from college are currently there for spring break haha. They seem to be having fun. Casinos and beach/drinking all day.

Took a surf trip to DR a couple years ago. Really enjoyed it, never had a problem with the locals, and the surf was choice.

went there for a Destination Wedding about 6 years ago. Beaches, scenery, everything was nice. We stayed at the RIU palace which was nice. Only complaint was the food at most of their buffets was terrible.

I've done two surf trips to the DR. Stayed around Cabarete and it was a good place to stay, TONS of hookers. I'd definitely rather go to the DR then PR.

For a less expensive all inclusive, Punta Cana is great. They're all very similar, just read the trip advisor reviews. You can do really really well on cheap Caribbean and similar websites. Good for a long weekend getaway on the cheap.

If you want to do anything else though, it's meh. Just beach, food, drinks, onsite entertainment. There are a few excursions and the towns aren't great, IIRC. Good for like a 5 day trip.

I went to Dreams. I would say it's a typical Caribbean experience. Sun, beach, pools, all inclusive cheap drinks and food. The one thing I will say is that the food there was not good. The best by far was the Japanese hibachi restaurant. We did do an excursion outside of the walls, but it wasn't recommended to walk locally....but you didn't need to. I did a 4 Wheeler excursion, and it was guided up through cane fields and a mountain, to a small town..which wasn't pretty....got to see more of the DR though......

I've only been to DR once, I go to PR almost every year. I love it, I feel that's it's the most underrated surf destination out there when compared to say Costa or Nic. I can get there round trip out of Orlando for $200 and know there will always be good consistent surf between Nov and March. Plus almost every one speaks English and they use the dollar. But every one has their own preference.

Excellence is supposed to be a pretty good property. I considered that one a while back, but ended up going to St. Lucia. I'll be interested in see what you have to say about it.
