          I think it was smart for him to choose a nonjury trial this time around given the circumstantial nature of the case... Too bad, though, because I think he did it.

            Someone very Cl ose to me was arrested for a horrible crime which he did not commit. For 18 months the county delayed his trial in the hope that he would cave out of despair if nothing else and plead to something. On the Friday before the trial was to begin on Monday, his lawyer advised the DA and the court he would be waiving his right to a jury. The DA dropped the charges.

              That is very interesting. I wonder why more defendants do not opt for nonjury trials? I suppose there would be fewer opportunities to argue for reversible error without a jury involved but, depending on the judge, it seems like a better option that relying upon twelve random people. Then again, maybe not!
