  • The "Kelly can go back to college" point is pretty weak

To make a claim that he's essentially bulletproof and can do what he wants without concern for the consequences (compared to other coaches) has a pretty false premise.

Based on the NFL coaching population, he's not in a unique situation at all.

Of the 32 head coaches in the NFL right now, 10 of them failed to win a championship in their first (or second) gig as a head coach in the NFL. Yet, somehow, they've been re-hired as NFL head coaches.

    Current (10 of 32):
    Bill Belichik
    Tom Coughlin
    Pete Carroll
    John Fox (twice)
    Andy Reid
    Jeff Fisher
    Lovie Smith
    Ken Whisenhunt
    Rex Ryan
    Gary Kubiak

And that doesn't include past coaches like: Buddy Ryan, Rich Kotite, Ray Rhodes, Rex Ryan, Marty Schottenheimer (3 times), Norv Turner, Wade Phillips, etc. who were all re-hired after failing.
