  • Has Chip Kelly and the Eagles

Lived up to your expectations this season so far?

The Sixers putting some wins together and the those who feel they should tank for a better chance in the 2014 nba draft made me think about the Eagles 10 games in:

So Kelly can move the ball and work with both QB's; the wideouts are having career seasons, McCoy is running the ball, our defense is playing semi-respectable overall with the way Reid and the Eagles played the last two seasons. Gameday coaching has had its quirks but I feel better then I did the past few seasons.

Would a playoff game this year with a division title make foles your 2014 starter?

I think the run Foles is on could play him in to our franchise QB. Crazy how better he has looked under Kelly compared to Reid with healthy players to work with. a record of 8-8 or 9-7 would place us in the middle of the draft next year and not in the position to grab a franchise qb, so he could win by default anyway.

I'm impressed. Mostly because of how much time he spends on each phase of the game. I've never seen a coach actively look for ST players like he has and it's shown. It's so underrated.

The defense seems to be coming along. Looks like he picked some good position coaches. I've read that they've had their DL and LBs keep hitting the sled during the season (which apparently other teams don't do) to help them develop their technique in the 2-gap 3-4.

On the QB front, it seems kind of silly to invest an early pick in a QB. You have Foles playing at a high level and we need help with pass-rushing, as well as WR depth. I don't know. I'd say ride Foles for the foreseeable future and keep an eye out for gems in the draft.

I do think Maclin might sign a one year Eagles special to see how he could fit in the offense, Cooper is not going to just give up the #2 spot with the way he has been producing.

Kelly gets the fact that there are 3 phases to a football team and Special Teams is where it starts, a back up must be able to contribute on ST's, if not they are not on the active roster on gameday.

I hope their draft board consists of the best player available next year. This team is still rebooting and can use talent at every position regardless of what side of the ball they play. We really could use a pass-rusher, DE,OLB or secondary help, offensively its OG,OT and WO...

      Football is fun once more...

I'm warming up on Chip, he is doing the small things correctly from my limited viewpoint. He is adjusting from week to week and within the game, he isn't repeating mistakes. He has made lemonade from the lemons he was given and still is tweaking players.

If Foles continues to show growth, run with him and look for more offensive weapons while reinforcing the defensive coverage guys.I would like to see Maclin return or a Maclin type player added to the offense...could be fun fireworks.

Yeah, I'd like to see Maclin back too. Chip moves all of the receivers around and I think he could play outside or in the slot.

Foles has already shown me he should be the new qb for 2014 and on. He has the pose u want from a franchise guy and blowing a high round pick on a qb is a bad idea. I wouldn't mind a guy like Stephan Morris in round 4 or 5 cause I think he will fall after a bad year. He has the size, arm, and speed Kelly likes.

As far as wr depth I think we do sign maclin back and he takes over for avant in the slot and we keep cooper on the outside, much like the giants do with Cruz. Even with that I would love to see Allen Robinson wr penn state in round 3. I pray we don't get brandon Coleman, from Rutgers he can't catch for a damn.

Would love to see Kyle van noy in eagles green in the first.
COACH KELLY: I don't have an update. You can ask me again if you want.

I don't think that's gonna happen. Maclin is a UFA next season and some team will probably value him more than the Eagles. Especially when you consider the progression we've seen from Cooper this past season.

Jeremy Maclin is expendable at this point and the Eagles can shift that money into an impact defensive player or two.

Need to take a hard look at TE, even if Ertz grows from here on out, I don't see Celeck coming back. As far as CK is concerned, I think he has done the best he could with what he was left.

I guess it bothers me just a bit that he didn't recognize Foles doing this well or he would have named him the starter as the onset, but then again, I don't think anyone thought Foles would have the numbers he has had.

But tom. is another day, and Foles needs to prove that he can win, against a div. rival, that is a lot better as a team now than they were in the first match up, the team also needs to prove that it can win at home!

Unfortunately, we have a few of the better players nicked up and questionable.

I don't think they'll have many cap issues

With getting rid of Cole (even with his dead money) and possibly renegotiating/extending big contract players like Peters, Ryans, and even Jackson, they should be well-positioned to do pretty much anything they want.

I have always agreed with the "Maclin is replaceable" camp. But if he wants to come back on a one-year try it in an offense that probably suits him to a "T" then I have no problem.

For those that say Cooper is worth keeping, I'd say he is even more replaceable than Maclin.

Yeah but you have Cooper under contract, at a very low price, while Maclin will get serious attention from another team in need of a WR.

Even coming off the injury Maclin will get a multi-year deal from a team in need of a WR. Danny Amendola got a five-year, $31 million deal from New England. You really think the Eagles go in that high for Maclin? I don't.

I guess my central point was that Maclin's potential 2014 (and beyond) contract with the Eagles really wouldn't have a significant impact on the team's ability to pay any particular defensive player they wish to sign.

BTW-which defensive player(s) is worth bringing in on a big money deal? I don't see much out there.

Foles needs to play well tomorrow. If he puts up seven touchdowns again then he locks up the job. If he spits the bit again, could be Johnny Football time. Just too soon to tell but the remaining games hopefully will clear up the picture.

Kelly has done a good job. Plenty of rookie NFL coach mistakes but he appears to be learning.

For me, Billy Davis has been the real surprise so far although I'm not sure where the defense is ranked in the league.

                            D ranks...

For the season....bottom of the league in pass yardage, middle of the road in run yardage, middle-ish in PPG allowed.

I would be curious to see how they rank in the weeks since the Cerebral Assassin made them a member of the Mile High Club, though. There does seem to be noticeable improvement.

Yeah, I thought they were low-ranked but they seem to be playing better.
