  • Saftey has to be addressed in the draft

but if we can't land Haha or Pryor, who should we get? After them there is a huge dropoff in the caliber of safety. One good thing about Malcolm Jenkins is he can play FS or SS, so we could look at either position, but I'm not sure Jimmie Ward or Terence Brooks would be any sort of improvement over Allen or Wolff.

Generally don't like doing it, but I think we should definitely consider moving up to take one of the 2 big safeties or maybe even trading a pick for a safety that is already in the league (although those kinds of trades are rare).

I'd have to agree. I don't even see Saftey on the depth chart.

I looked through that whole damn post for a typo, except the title. Would adjust it if I could change the title

OP is 100% correct. Dix/Pryor or bust!

I don't think the drop off is as severe as you do. There are several safeties that would be day 1 starters and huge upgrades besides the 2 that everyone is talking about. I'm not as high on Dion Bailey as some are, but Jimmie Ward, Deone Bucannon and Terrence Brooks are all quality players IMO.

I think it's tough to draft any of them (Ward, Bucannon, or Brooks) in the 1st though. Might even be a bit of a reach at 54, but they probably won't be around at 86. We have drafted well in the past two years, so I'll give the decision makers the benefit of the doubt. I just hope we go in to training camp with one more safety we can feel comfortable with, regardless of whom it may be or how we may get them.

I wouldn't take any of them in the first, but I think taking one of them at 54 is better value than trading up for HaHa or Pryor.

I might feel differently if they had their usual 10-12 picks.

Only having 6 picks does make it difficult to trade up. Would have to send one of next year's picks to do it. But considering they could likely try to ink Maclin and Foles to long deals next offseason, it could be a little more financially feasible to sacrifice a pick

They shouldn't mortgage the future for these players. Their scouts should find the second tier prospect who is a first round talent. That player is out there and great teams know how to find them. Not to mention this team has a horrifying history of trading up in the draft. We don't need another mamula or mcflugle.

This year's first and a third next year could possibly be enough to move up to get one of those guys. If that's the case it wouldn't exactly be mortgaging the future. Now, they could find the right guy later, and I'm not saying we have to trade up, but it should be seriously considered if one of them is available in the 17 range for a fair price. Since the people that drafted Mamula and McDougle are gone, I wouldn't worry so much about trading up. I think the new guys are pretty cautious with what they give out, so if they made a deal I'd guess it would be a good one

Birds have gotten some pretty good safeties in the 2nd round.

With only 6 pics I don't want them to package and move up, play it conservative and find the unpolished turd,,,, I mean gem.

Howie's already said how difficult it is to draft one.

Think he packages stuff for a position he isn't comfortable geeking on?
