I'm looking to purchase a generator for my home since we seem to lose power frequently with strong storms. I just want one with enough juice for the fridge, heat/AC and some lights.
I'd also suggest getting one of these in addition to the generator
Usually around $ 120
Works well for many uses and you can power/charge phones, radio, TV etc without having to fire up the generator. Many different ones to choose from, just make sure they have an inverter so you can plug in your home appliances
Can't tell from the pic but they aren't very big, maybe 12" tall by 12" long but we ran the PA system for a beach wedding off of one no problem. Also ran a TV and satellite box off it with no problem. Not good for a fridge though....

Any advice?
The Honda EU series run like champs and are pretty quiet. Have used the 3000 watt version and the 2000 watt version in the past. The 2000 could do everything with the possible exception offridge and heat/ac at the same time.
Got a Briggs & Startton 4300watt gen. about 14 years ago, also got a manual transfer panel and had electrician run transfer panel to the main panel. Connected only the things I needed frig, freezer, heating system, gas fireplace, 15amp for computer and tv and 4 outlets for lights. Its a real quick change over and no electric cords, all for a grand.

Get a Honda, you can't miss with them. I use them quite a bit here with work. Get one with a electric starter on it as well.
Canada is like a really nice apartment over a meth lab.
500 internet fights, that's the number I figured when I first joined igglephans. 500 internet fights and you could consider yourself a legitimate internet-tough guy. You need them for experience, to develop leather skin. So I got started. Of course along the way you stop thinking about being tough and all that. It stops being the point. You get past the silliness of it all. But then...after...you realize that's what you are.
I have quite a few pieces of eqpt here with Honda engines and they perform and last much longer than the Briggs & Stratton engines that come on most small machines.

You too huh? More than half of Caln Township was without power last night with some still in the dark. If you dont want to spend a boatload on a generator that you will only use 2 or 3 times a year, i would check out Harbor Freight (Downingtown). They have some pretty big generators (6000-8000 watts) for about $450-$500.
