  • Eagles will follow example of 76ers

Lurie and Roseman have decided on a strategy of total rebuild. They want the #1 pick in the 2017 draft to select Deshaun Foster.

2016 will be the year they draft o-linemen and defense. It will not be a flashy draft. The 2016 #1 pick will be an offensive tackle or cornerback. Adding at least 2 more o-linemen, defensive end, and defensive back will be done to draft for potential. They may draft a QB late in this draft for continuity. I don't expect many high salary guys to be back. This team will get a lot younger.

Sanchez may or may not be back, but Bradford won't be back in order to preserve salary cap money. They will sign another veteran QB to compete, but the lack of quality combined with not upgrading the current set of receivers will make this a run-first team in 2016 (ie. team unable to generate much offense) and put them in the running to draft the franchise QB that may let them compete in the decade to come.

Lurie sees this as an opportunity to reset the team to 1998 where the team can get the necessary bookend pieces to the o-line who will be ready to protect the new QB. The team will also have a solid defense ready to go. Also like the early years of McNabb, the team will have a quality tight-end but the wide-receivers will be a work in progress.

We'll see if Pederson will be the coach to lead this team or will be the next Tomsula.

They aren't going to be bad enough to get the 1st pick.

With Sanchez as the starter anything is possible. he would be the worst starting QB in the league so the math adds up on the offensive side of the ball. Especially when you factor in an offensive coordinator whose team went 4-12 with the decidedly better Philip Rivers at the helm.

True. With Sanchez anything is possible. I don't see him as the starter, though. He was Chip's guy. I think they save a few million if they cut him.

But I wonder if solidifying the defense and o-line can't be done while also exploring a chance to get one of the top QBs available in the draft, too.

Tanking for Watson seems risky. Tanking for one of the top QBs in 2017 makes more sense, but even then, are the other available QBs in 2017 worth the risk?

They would have to go 1-15 to get Watson. Maybe 2-14 but no better. He he a sure fire pick? Not happening. I'll make this argument again. Franchise QB's can be had in the later rounds. Cousins is a better QB than RGIII and he got taken way later in that same draft at pick #102. They have to take a couple QB's in mid rounds. One this year and one next year. For every Peyton Manning and Cam Newton is a Jamarcus Russell and an Alex Smith. But then you have Russell Wilson sitting in the 3rd at #75.

                  Steals:

                  Tom Brady- 199th pick
Aaron Rodgers- 24th pick (did not have to tank to get him).
Ben Roethlisberger- 11th pick (6-10 snags him this year).
                  Drew Brees- 32nd pick.

Great post. All passers. Great passers in the right system surrounded by great talent. It can be done with the Sam Hinkie strategy.
