I grew up preferring the Eagles, partly because of where I lived, which provided me with some very loose connections to the organization. I suppose that kind of leaned me to the local team. My old man didn't really care one way or the other, so long as there was football on the TV while he sat on his ass and drank.

I started visiting a variety of boards on a regular basis. Somewhere along the line I met Bill (who doesn't post here any more), and he suggested this place - both for the bord and for the tailgayting experience. The gaytes are full of non-football conversation, even though they are based on the common thread of Eagles football. And I see the bord as an extension of that. A place to shoot the shit with fellow phans, bust balls, talk about whatever, and just have a good time.

To get back to your troll concern, IE...I think the community here is very well developed, to the point where it does a good job of self policing. Sure, there is the occasional need to crush a spammer or other douchebag, but overall the community survives. I think that is something that is missing in a lot of forums, and lots of credit goes to you and the other OG folks for creating an environment where it could develop and flourish.

About a year and a half ago, I was diagnosed with cancer. I had actually read a post from TGP a few years earlier because he was also diagnosed with melanoma. I didn't know many people with melanoma, so you was one of the first people I actually talked to about what would happen. In the end, you actually gave me some advice which proved to be incredibly worthwhile as things moved on.

(side note: I'm not a sun worshipper, it showed up on my toe, so I guess I was part of the cull the Token Asshole was referring to based on shit luck or shit genes or whatever)

After that, this bored was a useful diversion as my cancer progressed. Last Christmas, I ended up getting diagnosed as stage IV - that's usually the terminal version. So, for about the past year, even though Chip was fucking up this team, this bored served an incredibly useful purpose of getting my mind off of not just cancer, but a shitty eagles team.

And, just to make this more uplifting, just after Christmas in 2015, I received my scan results - no evidence of disease. Oh, and chip got fired on the same day - woooooo!

So, I'd say this bored is a lot more than that and you've really proved it.

Wow, that's crazy. I'm always worried about melanoma (my father frequently had instances removed over his lifetime), and it's so damned sneaky. Glad to hear that you have it in your rear view mirror.
