I didn't know many people with melanoma, so you was one of the first people I actually talked to about what would happen. In the end, you actually gave me some advice which proved to be incredibly worthwhile as things moved on.

(side note: I'm not a sun worshipper, it showed up on my toe, so I guess I was part of the cull the Token Asshole was referring to based on shit luck or shit genes or whatever)

After that, this bored was a useful diversion as my cancer progressed. Last Christmas, I ended up getting diagnosed as stage IV - that's usually the terminal version. So, for about the past year, even though Chip was fucking up this team, this bored served an incredibly useful purpose of getting my mind off of not just cancer, but a shitty eagles team.

And, just to make this more uplifting, just after Christmas in 2015, I received my scan results - no evidence of disease. Oh, and chip got fired on the same day - woooooo!

So, I'd say this bored is a lot more than that and you've really proved it.
Damn dude. I had no idea, I'm glad you're okay now.

I appreciate it. As TGP will know, you don't get to be necessarily cancer free but we're both on the right side of it (they don't see anything). If you follow Philly.com's Patient #1, it's the same deal. Actually, same meds as Jimmy Carter though the media has backpedaled after he said they "didn't find any cancer" which they took to mean "cured" but really means they just can't find anything. Still though, it's a brave new world and now these immunotherapies are turning into the next big cancer development. I'm very very fortunate in that sense.

thanks a lot. It was (is) a wild journey. Thankfully, things are different and people who end up like me have a real chance.

Agreed. Many of us have known each other for a long time, and (hopefully) we've developed a thick enough skin to laugh off the caustic humor. If I've gotten too personal, I apologize. Except to the n00bs. F*ck them.

                    I have some good news

I've been good for 5 years and my oncologist doesn't want to see me any more. (Unless something new pops up, of course) Still have to go to the dermatologist every 6 months to make sure.

That's great! Yeah, I'm sure that's some real relief - those skin checks probably aren't even a big deal anymore. My biggest fear is I get pawned off on a hot med student dermatologist (good) and end up sporting a little wood during the full exam (not so good).

                          Bwah! Those dermatologists ARE gorgeous!

I'm sure you go through the same stuff. As soon as I get in the examination room and they find out I'm a melanoma survivor, every med student and their teacher walks in. Now I'm there buck naked and they all examine me, but ya know what? The more eyes on you the better.

I'm sure it's a relief, even though you still need to be vigilant.
