Joe Douglas' stamp on the Eagles approach to scouting is now very clear. Every player drafted by the Eagles this past weekend was a producer in college. The game plan from the start, when Barnett was selected at 14, made it clear that combine results and measurables have taken a backseat to skill sets and production levels.
I find this approach to be a breath of fresh air for a team that, as long as I can remember, placed a significant amount of emphasis on combine performance and physical atributes.
While this approach will probably still net some poor selections we can rest assured that the Eagles will be bringing in proven football players as opposed to projected players.
So long as Howie listens to Douglas its fair to say that players like Marcus Smith and Danny Watkins will no longer hold such prominent places on the Eagles draft board going forward.
Sure, there will be misses along the way. Thats the nature of the business. But at least this team will be taking chances on players who want to be successful football players instead of guys who could be good players if they turn out to want it bad enough.
