  • OT: Ken Burns Vietnam

Pretty good. Brings back a lot of weird memories. That was a bizarre time.

I've really enjoyed it and learned a lot, especially pertaining to the build up. Bottom line for me - that was perhaps the dumbest war ever. So utterly pointless from the very beginning and such a waste of lives.

        Good soundtrack

Learned a couple of things ... remembered a few I forgot ... mostly a general rehash of history I know in more detail.

Both he and Kennedy lied to the press (and the American public) about what was going on. It's just hard for me to fathom how the potential spread of communism into Vietnam and Laos was concern enough to send Americans to die en masse. I don't get it.

Also, I hate to admit this, but as I watched the first episode, I found myself sympathizing more with Ho Che Min. Doesn't seem like he wanted much more than to no longer be colonized (does that sound familiar??). Communism seemed a secondary priority to self-governance. And the guy we propped up in South Korea was terrible. Shame on me for never having learned more of the history behind it, but I was dumbfounded that we would even consider fighting a war there.
