  • Not a fan of the new arena league NFL

I didn't really enjoy that game last night. I'm probably in the minority and I'm not asking for 7-3 but that seems to be the way the league is going and I'm not a fan.

I hear ya. The Rams are supposed to have a staunch D and they were getting gashed last night.

Sort of proves SB LII wasn’t an anomaly. I thought it was just a horrible day for the birds defense. But you have the Saints put up 40 in a loss, and 43, 45, 48, and 52 in wins. You had the Falcons and Rams put up 35 in losses. Jeff Kerr, one of the Eagles best writers had an interesting thought—that because there’s limited contact practices during the season, teams aren’t playing great defense.

Penalties don’t help. It was really hard to watch at times last night. I fell asleep at halftime and woke up to find LAR put up 17 in the 3rd??

Given the way the rules are...is it even worth drafting corners high? I mean...they are at a huge disadvantage. Just draft oline, dline and then skill position. And by dline, just get pass rushers.

Said it before ... say it again

Dump the 5-yard rule ... pass coverage penalty only for holding and when there is contact while a catchable ball is in the air.

If you look at any QB today it's an automatic penalty

This league is so watered downed now, its becoming to a point fantasy football is even discussed continuously during live games

I think it’s a victim of tv ratings. You see some of the highest rated games are also some of the highest scoring.

This thread is proof that this bored is filled with a bunch of geezers.

That was the game of the year, one of the best regular season games that I can remember. Bitching about defense when I can recall 3 defensive TDs. Ill get off your lawn while Im at it.

Edit: Offense is also why the Super Bowl we (not they) just won will go down as one of the greatest ever played.

Baloney ... age has nothing to do with this.

Pinball scoring games are fun as an anomaly ... but having no defense will kill NFL football.

Like one writer I read indicated ... ice cream sundaes are a nice treat ... but eating 6 scoop sundaes with bananas, fudge, crushed peanuts and cherries every day ... you get sick of it pretty damn quick.

THIS IS PHILLY, WHERE WE LOVE A BUDDY RYAN DEFENSE THAT WILL RIP YOUR HEAD OFF AND SHIT DOWN YOUR THROAT. THE NFL IS NOT THAT ANY LONGER. YOUR NOT EVEN ALLOWED TO BLIND SIDE HIT ANYONE OR IT'S A HIT ON A DEFENSELESS PLAYER PENALTY, DEFENSEFUCKINLESS...... PUSSIES.

OH WAIT PENALTY...THE DEFENSE JUST BRUSHED HIS PINKY ON THE QB HEAD. OH MY GOD YOUR SO ROUGH, THAT'S A PENALTY.

I KNOW THE DEFENSE STRIPPED QB AND SCORED A FEW TD'S, I WATCHED THE HIGHLIGHTS NEXT DAY AFTER I TURNED IT OFF.

COULD YOU IMAGINE DICK BUTKUS PLAYING IN THIS LEAGUE? I COULDN'T.

                        ANDRE DIRTY WATERS??? PLEASE.

I did enjoy it, but I agree with the premise of this thread.

Something is up this year, and I'm not really sure what. Most people will point to the "new" roughing rules, but even when they were calling those penalties, they affected maybe a game a week. I'm hoping this year will be a blip on the radar the way that 2011 was. Scoring numbers from that year don't support my claim, but passing numbers were out of control. Brady and Brees throwing for 5000 yards is no big deal, but Stafford and Eli?

Obviously the league has continually become more pass happy over time, but last year was a bit of a return to normalcy. Carson Wentz missed 2.5 games, but his 33 TDs still led the league until week 17. Scoring was the same as it had been 15 years prior. A lot of guys threw for 4000, but higher yardage numbers are as much due to the evolution of offense and coaches no longer being conservative (i.e., afraid to get fired) as they are to rule changes. But when guys are throwing for 5 TDs as if it were nothing I lose some interest.

YOU'RE RIGHT. A VIDEO GAME GAME IS OK EVERY NOW AND AGAIN, BUT THIS IS WHAT THE LEAGUE WANTS, THEY WANT THE PEOPLE TO WATCH THAT ALL HAVE ADHD, GOTTA KEEP IT MOVIN OR THEY LOSE INTEREST AND FLIP THE CHANNEL.
I TURNED IT OFF, FIGURED I COULD JUST WATCH THE HIGHLIGHTS NEXT MORNING.

BASEBALL TAKES A RATINGS BEATING CAUSE IT'S A SLOW MOVING GAME. A 1-0 GAME THAT'S A PITCHERS DUEL KIDS WILL FLIP BECAUSE IT'S NOT A 12-10 GAME WITH 35 HITS.

I'LL TAKE A POSSIBLE NO HITTER GOIN INTO THE 7th INNING ANY DAY OF THE WEEK.

This would be nice but I don't think the NFL is going back to its pre-2004 rules, especially considering how much higher ratings are now than they were then.
