  • Non game thread post: How did they arrive at 24 seconds for the shot clock?

Why not 25 seconds? Why not 30?

Did they want an even number?

Should have been 23. Or 19. Not enough prime numbers in sports.

The NBA introduced the 24-second shot clock during the 1954-55 season to speed up the game. The number 24 was devised by Syracuse Nationals owner Danny Biasone, who divided the game's 48 minutes into 120, the average of 60 shots per team in games played from the previous three seasons.
