The only reason North Korea exists is because of China. The last thing China wants is a unified Korea with US troops based on their border.

Yeah, North Korea is a little too wild and unpredictable for China's liking. Considering China's proximity to North Korea, they're about as scared as the US when it comes to the whole nuclear thing...

Basically, the best possible scenario for Korea is a deal where they reunify with the US agreeing our troops will not advance past the DMZ as long as we remain. If there ever is a resolution, that's what it's gonna look like.

Leaving the South to Chinese influence is a non-starter, the US troops getting closer to China is too. Hopefully China likes being rich world dominant assholes as much as we do and we won't ever think it's not a dumbass idea to actually fight about it and ruin it for both of us.

Much like Iran, the ruling class of North Korea knows how good they have got it going on. They know that in the event of any military strike, whether the war is lost or stalemated (no way either country wins in a war), that their cush lifestyles are toast and they are probably deader than fried chicken to boot.
