Ironically, Eddie Gottlieb, who owned the Warriors and the Philly Stars of the Negro Leagues, teamed up with Bill Veeck on a failed bid to buy the Phillies around the time Robinson broke in.
Veeck wound up buying the Cleveland Indians and signed Larry Doby, the first black player in the American League. Had Gottlieb-Veeck succeeded in buying the Phils, I believe they would have been one of the first teams to integrate.
