  • What was the draft geek consensus on Colin Kapernick when he entered the NFL draft?

It's a rhetorical question. I'm curious because we seem to have a lot of people who already have their minds made up re Geno Smith and EJ Manuel.

I just always try to keep in mind that the draft is a crap shoot. At ALL positions... not just QB. Reid (FF) got relatively lucky with his first draft pick with the Eagles but Banner and him sure f*cked up a bunch of other first round draft picks.

If Kelly thinks Geno Smith is worth the #4 pick, more power to him. Chip Kelly will sink or swim on his decisions and the first big decisions start with this draft.

    Good point

The more "experts" say some guy is a bum, the better chance he has of being a great pick.

True but how many Nevada football games do we see? I have not watched them pretty much ever.

Fsu and wvu are on pretty much weekly. I've seen a ton of those players, little of Nevada's

I'm not saying you are wrong so much as I am saying no one really knows what is right.

When you pick in the top 5 you have a pretty good chance of getting a consistent all pro...at any position. QB is the most difficult to project and usually among the biggest all-time busts because of the importance of the job.

It's easier to project a great O Tackle or D Lineman. Even corners and linebackers it's easier to identify the can't miss types. I suppose it's easier for a QB to be the product of a system and having a great cast around them to look better than they really are.

The hyperbole surrounding the selection QBs confuses most people on this matter but draft history proves the law of averages does not discriminate.

For every Andrew Luck there is a Jamarcus Russell or Ryan Leaf.

For every Joe Thomas there is a Jason Smith or Tony Mandarich.

For every Mario Williams there is a Tyson Jackson or Courtney Brown.

For every Von Miller there is an Aaron Curry or Tom Cousineau.

                And so it goes.

Of course it is a crapshoot...however...

My feeling from seeing him play is he's definitely a project. He makes bad decisions at critical times in the game and doesn't seem to have great pocket awareness or the ability to move around back there despite his speed.

I guess my main reason for opposing him is that I feel the Eagles have greater needs on both lines, and if the draft geeks are correct its a much deeper draft in those areas. Hence, while a crapshoot, the Eagles chances of getting a real player are much better by taking an offensive or defensive lineman or that DB from 'Bama.

But what do I know...I thought Ryan Leaf would be better than Peyton Manning.

I just posted that a few minutes ago actually. Have to have faith he will make the right call until he proves otherwise.

How do you define "pretty good chance?" at QB this year?

You think Smith has a pretty good chance to be an all-pro QB?

                      Based on what?

Colin Kaepernick got a 38 on the Wonderlic

That tells me ALOT about Colin Kaepernick. Geno Smith is functionally illiterate.

And for the record, I think Ryan Nassib is better than EJ Manuel

You can put that sh*t in your "Favorites" and smoke it. I'm biased because my son went to Syracuse, but I've also watched this guy closely. He's got the one thing that you LOVE to see in a player: He continues to get better and better every single year. I love his decision-making.

Geno Smith is no Mike Mamula, that's for sure.

I think you don't like him because he played for a Syracuse rival.

Yes, you are biased. At least you acknowledge it.

I'm glad I'm not much of a college sports fan. The NCAA sucks. I get sick when I see their self serving advertisements during March Gayness.
