Pick up an Apple TV for $99, then just do the streaming MLB ($150), NHL ($100) and NBA ($130 even though I know you don't like NBA).

So that's $250/year for your sports, $7/month for TV via Hulu Plus, and $7/month for Netflix. Not as good as cable by any means (tried doing that and went back), but somewhat effective.

                  What about HBO?

This crap needs to be ala carte already

Eh, best you can do there is subscribe to them on Itunes and get them the day after they air. Not sure about the HBO shows, but I'd guess it'd be around $40/show.

This is where the torrent nerds chime in, but I dig the quality of the pay shows, and it's less effort.
