Heading up there this weekend with my girlfriend, who is half Sicilian and would absolutely love some authentic Italian food. If anyone has any recommendations, that'd be greatly appreciated. We're staying in Center City but happy to head elsewhere if the food is worth it.

Real italian you're best at Vetri, Osteria, Amis, Le Virtu, or Melagrano. Monsu is authentic Sicilian, but not as good as the others.
If you want a red gravy/South Philly American Italian, you're best hitting up Villa De Roma, Dante & Luigis or Scannichios.WANGNUTIAN. (pronounced wang-nooshan, martian)

Don't know about the "red gravy" places but diggle's recs are the best. Forget Vetri though. Need about 3 months notice to get a table on a Sat nite. Amis is also a Vetri operation. Right in CC . Great menu homemade pasta. But these are all very popular places so make your reservation ASAP.
