  • Training Camp in South Phila is going to be interesting.

I see some value in allowing the players to acclimate to the environment they will ultimately be practicing in.

However, it's gonna suck for the fans. We will have no idea what is going on. Our first real glimpse of what is going on will be with the preseason fake games. I have no doubt that raising the currently zero value of those games is a major part of why the NFL is moving to closed training camp practices.

The littlest Telemarketer tried charging for training camp years ago and it flopped. So now they are trying a new way to monetize the preseason The NFL is all about money.

They already get the money ... what are they trying to do, get more concessions?

TV maybe? Honestly I don't know but I'm pretty sure this training camp move is profit based.

Probably cheaper to use their own facilities, but other than that, I don't get it.

Fucks the fans, that's for sure.

I know I'm not as cynical, but I think it could be as simple as Chip liking to do things his way.

I agree, but I think Chip does what works best for Chip and the Eagles weren't about to fight him on it this soon in his tenure.

Hopefully there will be some fan blowback and they convince Chip to revert back in a few years.

I know many fans are generally suspicious of the Eagles, but the trend is around the league for a reason, and it's not money. Well, strike that, it is about money but not the way you think.

it's about doing what you can to protect an enormous investment. The roster costs over 120 million dollars each year. Stop and consider that. 120 million dollars is invested in those players on the field.

A - you do not want them running around and tackling on a flipping jr college corn field. -- $120,000,000

B - While not a guarantee that your players won't get injured on a professional field, you are walking distance from state of the art medical facilities under your own roof. -- $120,000,000

C - It's just less disruptive for your team from a competitive point of view. Making grown men sleep in a dormitory is just silly. Talk about High School Harry stuff. Going to college for camp is the very definition of High School Harry.

The Eagles are going to become a better team in October by doing this. Should have started it over a decade ago. Oh, and protecting 120 million bucks doesn't hurt.

Any of the players getting a mayo smoothie?
John Erlichman, one of President Richard Nixon's closest aides, has admitted America's "War on Drugs" was a hoax designed to vilify and disrupt "the antiwar left and black people" when it was launched in 1971.

I think your points A and B are moot. The fields at Lehigh are the same as any field at the Novacare center Grass is grass.

As far as medical issures are concerned, any player who is injured is likely to have to see a doctor off site of the training facility. This isn't emergency medicine... I don't think it matters too much if a doc takes 15 minutes to see an ACL rupture as opposed to a day.

Point C I can agree with.

                    That is all.

Not sure about all the numbers involved but I know they averaged $100,000.00 per day in merchandise sales at Lehigh.

You don't have the first fucking clue about the effect this will have on that team and you know it.

There is no reason to think that going away for a month to that setting wouldn't actually be better for them.

This is purely money and anyone thinking otherwise also believed banning fans from bringing food into the Stink was due to security concerns.

cut costs. staying home is cheaper than going to lehigh.
