You ever been to a training camp? There aren't all that many snaps to go around. This is not a good situation at QB. Chip needs to narrow it down quick.
Vick and Foles are 1 - 2. Barkley is going to stick for development. Dixon is a journeyman and Kinne is camp fodder.

They aren't drafting a linebacker or safety with this pick. They need to have a QB waiting in the wings once Vick leaves. Why wait until next year? Young will be gone and they have nobody to develop.
They has an opportunity to get one of the three QBs out there, why not draft one now? RG3 or Barkley may not pan out but they need to roll the dice. This team needs hope. The meaningless win yesterday pretty much put that hope out of reach.

That was 2011. It's 2013. He's a stiff.
If you go back in history, feel free to review my posts from 2012...
I hope they do. That's one less shitty team looking to draft a QB next year. I agree with you about Barkley. I think there's a good chance he's not the 'top-rated' QB next year. Either way, the Eagles know they need to draft a QB, I just hope it's not this year.Last edited by Snakebitten; 04-27-2013, 04:41 PM.

Not too many on April 27th
The numbers will shake out in training camp and the preseason. I think we'll know pretty early which QB's are the round pegs in a square hole offense.
My bigger concern, though, is cultivating an offense that doesn't know what it wants to be. A Barkley/Foles offense is radically different from a Vick offense. This has the potential to stunt the development of this offense. Do they now have to wait for a starting QB to emerge and then build around him?

too many moving parts. you have a coaching staff with a significant number of nfl novices trying to install a new-style high-speed offense on a bad team with a churned-up roster. A three or possibly four-way QB competition only makes things less stable.
what foundation does this team build on? i don't see it. in the nfl, stability and repetition are keys to success. tough to wing it.
i have no doubt kelly thinks he can pull it off but reid thought castillo could make the switch to defense. that was significantly less ambitious than what kelly needs to accomplish.
frankly i don't understand why vick is still in the mix. kelly says the first skill he is looking in a qb for is "repetitive accuracy." we all know that isn't vick's game. why waste time on him?Blue Chip College Football - Coach Your College to the National Championship

1) Vick appears to have the skillset to run Kelly's read-option based on what we've seen at Oregon.
2) Vick is really the only proven NFL starter on the roster. He's not the ideal veteran presence (unless he really has changed under Reid...unlikely)
3) Vick can start day 1 and for better or worse, He likely won't be starting on week 17. If nothing else, we know he won't play 16 games this year.
4) I think he gives Kelly some locker room presence. It's hard for Kelly to come in and also drop in a rookie or young QB. If you get Vick to buy in (and really highlight his skills), you can get the other vets to buy in as well
The one thing I will say is, I'm also concerned about the D. I think they got a group of solid players here, but the defense has issues. I think the reason need is less relevant is because they won't be competitive this year. If they have to go through a bad season, I'd settle for 3 wins again 3 certain teams we all hate.

foles has just enough experience to satisfy #2 and #3 especially on a team that doesn't have any real playoff aspirations. and if foles and barkley can't run the read-option - assuming that's going to be the offense - why are they on the roster?
at this point, i'd dump vick and build the offense around foles/barkley since they have similar skill sets.Blue Chip College Football - Coach Your College to the National Championship

If they were going to get another QB in the draft they should have released Vick or traded Foles. Who the hell knows if Barkley has a better future than Foles? And three million down the drain to cut Vick.
The obvious odd man out is Dixon but I think Chip has a sentimental attachment to him.
