I am not sure if I've ever posted on a Goodell-based NFL issue here, but this story has forced me to break the string.

I have looked at Goodell's tenure as commissioner with the feeling that many of the changes over the past few years (increased focus on a couple games in Europe, changing the draft format, feigning interest in "protecting" players) are just the way the NFL has tried to maximize profit like any regular 'ole capitalist-based company with a huge market would normally do.

But when you get into these social issues, the NFL (and Goodell in particular) had a chance to make a statement. He sure did. A bullshit-based ("positive meaning distinct from disparagement"?!) Dan Snyder-backed-by-merchandise-sales revisionist history statement. He should be ashamed of himself.

By my calculations and Goodell's logic, if someone wanted to start a team with an anti-gay slur (pick one!) as a nickname, here's what you should do: Just let Goodell know that, to the "diverse" fan base, the name conveys strength, courage, pride, and respect.

Sickening.

Would you walk up to a Native American and say: "Hey redskin, how's it going?"
