this is like cliff's 5th start in a row that he's cruised through the first 7 innings before struggling in the 8th or 9th. i'm not exaggerating. there was one friday night game against the brewers where he didn't have his best stuff, but i'm not sure that he's given up any runs in the first 6 innings in those other 4 starts. there was a day game against the brewers when he was gassed and gave up runs in the 8th, a game against the twins when he gave up runs in the 7th or 8th, a game against the national when he gave up runs in the 8th, and tonight. charlie can't keep leaving him in past 100 pitches. the dude is almost 35 years old, and papelbon is getting paid 13 million. put him in with the 3-run lead. don't put him in a pressure situation, after he's already blown 3 saves this week. jesus this fucking team.
