My personal choice to collect his jersey or not collect it is a misrepresentation of the point just as your personal choice would be.

There's a market for rare and collectible items. It exists whether or not you or I are a part of it. Sport and historical crime related memorabilia are big aspects of it.

It really says very little more about society than just reaffirming that some people collect rare shit and other people sell it to make money.
