When I said in my initial post it wasn't the Loews, I wanted to make it clear because one time I had a bad experience there... after a Vagaints game.. haha... but I complained and the next time was excellent. Didn't really get much of a price break but they gave me some great perks.--------

Resolution:
Got a call from the Hotel today and they are taking 25 percent off the bill.
That seems appropriate to me for the level of inconvenience so I'm ok with the way things ended up.
Actually, for me, just having someone call in person to apologize went a long way.--------

To Me, It Hinges On When They Knew Of The Shut Off
The letter doesn't make it clear when they knew of the situation or, more importantly, why the work was being done in the first place.
I read the letter and it sounds like they knew of the shut off ahead of time. If that's the case they had a responsibility to ask, "How long will you be staying, sir, because we have scheduled maintenance on our water lines and we'll be turning off the water..." etc.
An emergency situation they didn't know about is totally different.
Bottom line -- ask questions. If they DID know at the time you checked in they had a responsibility to tell you and you definitely SHOULD have some sort of compensation coming."If I owned Texas and Hell, I'd rent out Texas and live in Hell!"

i spent past 4 days at the beach in a condo-tel place (or, as you'd call it 'Slumming").
Yesterday i was making several trips to the car and back to load up and come home and some cheap asshole was complaing the entire time about his 'issues' whilst there trying to be a dick and get $$$ taken off his bill. these were decent rooms, close to the water, etc. not a 5 star place but pretty solid overall.
toilet kept plugging
slow draining shower
lack of towels (probably b/c he wacked off non stop all weekend and used them all up)
too close to ice machine in hallway and it was loud from people getting 'ice all the time'
too much noise after the 10pm cutoff and 'quiet hours'
too many kids in halls (it was july 4th week, asshole. Stay home next year)
the manager kept firing back at his ass in a nice way the entire time and was a great counter puncher. she saw rigth through his bullshit.
i was parked next to him and put 3 of my empty beer cans under his tires. watched him pull out and slam on his brakes when his vehicle backed over them. hopefully he has a stiff neck now. i love doing stupid shit like that to people. yes it's juvenile but assholes deserve to be f*cked with.Last edited by Ellsworth; 07-08-2013, 10:59 AM.

My family planned a early dinner for my birthday Sunday. My GF and I checked into a decent hotel (not the Loews... want to make sure that's clear) around 3:30.
My GF and I go out to dinner and when we get back around 10 PM there is a letter slipped under the door saying they are going to have to turn off the water the next day from 10 AM to 2 PM.
This was a pain in the azz because our train back was scheduled at 1PM. We were planning to check out at noon and catch the train.
Fortunately we were able to use the bathroom facilities at my mom's place but had to check out two hours earlier than we wanted... Plus my mom had to come get us at the hotel. I didn't want have to bother her on Monday.
Question: Should I expect compensation for this?
