it seemed inconceivable to live around Rehoboth Beach/ Fenwick Island and commute to New Castle county to work everyday, but with better roads and telecommuting options, I wonder if that is common now? I haven't been in that area during the past 25 years, so I'm not sure. Anyone know?

My wife and I are considering this. I telecommuted in the past, so it is very doable. We considering living a few miles outside Rehobeth. I think it may be worth the extra cost of real estate to just live on beach

As long as you don't have to travel on summer weekends, it might be doable.

But watch out if something like Sandy were to hit the area.

I'm in Avalon and I love it but I don't want to be here in the winter.

What's the approximate time it would take

to get back to Newark from Rehoboth? A little over an hour?

Insurance for a house on the beach might be astronomical after Sandy. If so, a bike ride or walk from the beach might be ideal.

How far is Fenwick Island from Rehoboth? Another 30 minutes or so?

                Not wrong at all.
I like Ocean City a lot, but will always prefer the Mountains.

but given the rise in ocean levels and projections that it is accelerating, 50 years from now it may well be offshore property you own

With that said...I still want to retire to either Key West or Hawaii (I figure the 50th state is still lurching upward, so sea level rise is not as much of an issue)

If rising water levels bring the coast in about 3/4 a mile, I'll own oceanfront property. Cha-ching!
