  • GASLAND Fracking in PA OT

Last night I watched a documentary on HBO created by this guy who lives in PA (Josh Fox) called GASLAND. The documentary is about fracking for natural gas and its pretty scary stuff. I've read that he could be an alarmist who uses bad science and misrepresents facts but it worth a watch if you live in any of these states where they're doing it. There is a part 2 GASLAND 2 that's on HBO but I couldn't find it online.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

A primary focus in Gasland is the Safe Drinking Water Act in the Energy Policy Act of 2005 that allowed exemptions for hydraulic fracking.

Just point out that it's not purely this administration that's involved.

                  Untrue, according to NY Times

Perhaps they are in on this...

"The oil and gas industry enjoys exemptions from portions of those environmental laws. But it is not completely exempt from any of them."

The documentary "Gasland" brought the term "hydraulic fracturing" into the nation's living rooms. With its sharp and sustaine...

                    For real?

You mean fracking and domestic surveillance weren't first employed in 2008?

All docs are propaganda, but there's usually a kernal of truth in each one.

There are extreme positions on both sides. The anti-Frac side sees disaster and wants all fracking stopped. The industry says the possible problems are minimal and the need for the oil and gas far outweighs the potential problems.

The industry made a mistake when these issues first came up. They wouldn't even share what chemicals made up the fluids they were sending into the ground that would eventually seep into the water tables. We would probably e closer to a solution/resolution if the industry cooperated. Their position has changed as moratoriums on fracking are initiated ...but they opened the door for the anti-Frac groups to get a foothold.

Technology may eventually resolve things. Here's one company working on a fluid free concept.

I own interests in private companies drilling horizontal wells in the U.S. ,Canada and Europe. And .take it from me....this issue ..although it impacts everyone..is local local local. NY has halted fracking. Texas will give you tax breaks if you just say the word "fracking" there is a fracking operation of going on on every potentially productive acre in the state.

They even have purchase Josh Fox ad words and have spent a butt ton of money so anyone searching for Josh Fox or Gasland see's sponsored links for "Debunking Gasland" the lies and "inaccuracies of Gasland". They have even hired the same PR firm that big tobacco used and told everyone smoking was safe. Using the same tactics to discredit anyone who speaks out.

You take a grain a salt with either, but living in the middle of NEPA frack zone has me a bit more on the Josh Fox side than the Gas Industry side. There are have 5 wells and a pipeline within 3 miles of my home. With 15 more slatted for the coming year. My water hasn't been affected...yet, and the air hasn't turned sour but the constant traffic (2500 water tankers to frack one well) is insane. Knowing the wells are going to fail within 30 to 50 years will leave this area uninhabitable.

                            Where'd you hear that nonsense?

From what I've seen ( and I haven't researched it thoroughly) - it looks like Fox is simply making crap up. At least the debunkers seem to have some facts to back them up.

Even Daily Kos is debunking this clown's claims!

The source, the Independent Petroleum Association of America, is an oil and gas lobbyist and is hardly independent.

I'm just saying that their opinion/research on the matter should probably be looked at with just as much if not more skepticism.

How long did Phillip Morris say smoking was safe?
