GZ could have done many things different which would have changed the outcome however none of them are required.
Legally justified- yes
Morally justified- That is for him to answer, but nothing suggests he had ill will
Because I haven't see too many folks argue that the facts didn't bear out to a legal justification or at least reasonable doubt that that his justification was both factually enough and significant enough to merit doubt.

Most people's positions, including AnnapolisEagle's (which you so righteously engaged), was that the verdict, supported by facts, was legally correct, but morally, most of us questioned Zimmerman's conduct.
The accepted facts provide evidence which runs contrary to that theory which prevents prosecutor's from reaching the required standard. It does not however, prevent others from reach a lesser standard, such as clear and convincing (which is pretty damn strong). Moreover, the law allows for initial aggressors to use deadly force if they are threatened from their non-deadly position (which is effectively what GZ did).
The law errs on the side of the innocent when restricting liberty for a very good reason. Morality doesn't have that protection nor does it require it.

You get past the silliness of it all. But then...after...you realize that's what you are.

In the video linked below, a grown man is punched by a 15 year old. If the 15 year old had then climbed on top of him and attempted some head smashes on the concrete, would this man have reasonably felt that he was at risk for great bodily harm? If he was carrying a gun, do you think he would have been justified in using it? I think almost any reasonable person would say yes. GZ basically made the defense that that is what happened. The witnesses and physical evidence backed up that claim at least enough that the prosecution couldn't prove beyond a reasonable doubt that it didn't happen that way. The very poor decisions that made that encounter possible at all may be tragic and infuriating, but legally irrelevant. I can't figure out what else I'm missing here.
