    I think this Cooper incident exposes

    The lack of strong veteran leadership on this team. Vick, Avant and Kelce have spoken out as unifying figures, but I feel like the team just doesn't have what it takes yet. This was probably a situation in which the coach should have stepped in and slapped a suspension to show firmness. These players, unlike the early team of 2001, lack the maturity and leadership necessary to move on from a business perspective. They're looking around for someone else to handle this. McNabb, Dawkins, Trotter, Douglas, Vincent and so on would have kept the comments in house.

    Reid ran a tight ship and that part of his leadership I had hoped would be replicated in the new coach. It's early, but it's better to be a hard ass first and then back off.

    The Eagles consulted the NFL and maybe that limited what form of punishment could be imposed on Cooper. I'm not saying that the punishment wasn't fair... but maybe it should have involved a few days suspension from practice.

    I think its too early to make that statement. I bet this was circulating around the team back when it actually happened.

    We might get surprised if they circle the wagons and say fuck the media.
    500 internet fights, that's the number I figured when I first joined igglephans. 500 internet fights and you could consider yourself a legitimate internet-tough guy. You need them for experience, to develop leather skin. So I got started. Of course along the way you stop thinking about being tough and all that. It stops being the point. You get past the silliness of it all. But then...after...you realize that's what you are.

      You can't really assess what is going on with an NFL team based on things they say to the media during training camp. If you could, well, we would have had a dream team.

        I agree that its still early.

        ... piss shots, catheter bong shots, dong bottles for cyclists, Riccardo siphoning piss straight from the dong... I can't keep finding ways to talk about piss.

          I don't know. This is a fragile time in Kelly's tenure and I think a firmer hand was probably necessary.

          Some of the better players on this team aren't leaders like McNabb. They are good players, but not leaders. The roster needs one or two more cycles of change.

          Think about 2001... Duce Staley, Trotter, Douglas, McNabb, Tra Thomas, Runyan, Dawkin, Vincent... This team isn't like 2001.

          I'll let the season play out, but I've always contended that we need a couple more years... and that's partly due to a lack of quality leadership form big performers.
