Phillies planned to honor manager Friday, fired him instead!
Charlie Manuel was fired Friday by the Philadelphia Phillies after nine seasons, 780 wins, five division titles and one World Series win.
For all the talking general manager Ruben Amaro did during Friday's dismissal press conference — not to mention the crying — about how tough the firing was and how much Manuel meant to the organization, the Phillies sure didn't figure out a smooth way to honor their longtime manager for becoming the 59th to join the 1,000-win club and fire him in the same day.
