  • What's funny about the great innovator is...

...all 31 other teams run a hurry up, no huddle offense. And almost every one of them runs it better than the Eagles so far. All that hype about defenses never having seen this pace before, see it better and faster in practice against their own offense.

The hype machine is always in overdrive at the Novacare complex.

I won't be a complete negadelphian. I think they can reach 6 wins. No way will they get more, but 6 is a decent first year. Gonna take three years to rebuild the roster. It's really bare.

And oh yeah -- you can still beat Vick with constant pressure. When the bell rings, that offense will face jail breaks every play. Vick will get rattled and revert to what he's always been. You can see it coming.

The mirage is Chip high octane offense at Oregon

A lot of people think it will be successful in the NFL. I remember when people hyped up Steve Spurrier with this new unstoppable (Fun and Gun) offense.

The analysts were saying the DCs around the league will be shaken in their boots. How did that work out?

It's a lot of hype no doubt, but a lot of people will be disappointed including Chip when he realize this isn't the Pac 12

Why does everyone compare Kelly to Spurrier. There are two major differences between the teams--

      1. Spurrier had really no NFL quality type QB to run his offense. Say what you want about Vick, and I saw last night's game and unfortunately, it looked to me like he got too comfortable knowing he was anointed the starter. However, at 33 is a whole hell of a lot better than Danny Weurffel was.

      2. Spurrier himself, after he was fired said that he wasn't ready to put in NFL-type days as a coach--you know, the 12-18 hour days that first time coaches, and often, seasoned coaches put in. He admitted he thought that he could come in, do 8 hours, then head for the golf course. I have yet to see that reported froom the sportswriters that Kelly believes the same thing.

Wait a minute, you find it premature to wax Chicken Little on the basis of an uneven performance by the offensive line and quarterback in a preseason game?
Obscenity is the last refuge of an inarticulate motherfucker.

I've never been Chicken Little in the preseason--however, I think comparing Kelly to Spurrier, when Spurrier himself admitted he thought he could take short cuts to coaching in the NFL, is a mistake.

Yeah, it can work out in the college game, where as one Philly beat writer puts it, you're in charge of 18-22 year olds making no money--not in charge of 22-???men, many of whom are millionaires.

Thanks, Athens, it is good to be back. I have lurked for a while, just notposted anything. As I told someone else, I look forward to the season, if only for the change it will bring. I have seen 2 of the Eagles preseason games on NFL Gamepass, and it is a difference not seeing Reid on the sideline.

How about Nick Saban in Miami with Dante Culpepper, Joey Harrington and Cleo Lemon? I'm not sure about his golf game.

That's what I said, SB--Spurrier had Danny Wuerffel at QB--he might have won the Heisman at Florida, but like so many QBs who were Heisman winners in college, proved to be overmatched in the NFL.

Chip wasn't actually dealt a very good hand when it comes to QBs. Sure, maybe not as bad as Wuerffel but not that much better. I'm still trying to figure out how running this type of offense benefits this shitty defense.
