  • I'm telling you... you better watch Herremans this year!

... and Mathis for that matter.

Both are 9 year vets and I'm a little concerned after watching preseason stuff. I strongly suspect the Eagles were targeting Kyle Long in the second round to challenge Herremans, or EJ Manuel if he was there.

I've seen Herremans play better as the season progressed before, but I'm still concerned.

Down the road, the good news is that guard is easier to replace than OT.

Also: I expect the Eagles to go after 3-4 cuts on the D side of the ball after today. LB's and DB's. Like OT, finding secondary help is very difficult and that is were Roseman needs to fuckin' earn his money.

Yep. He doesn't look like the same player. And I've always believed Mathis has been overhyped. He's a journeyman for a reason.

Mathis had a couple of good years, but maybe that was because of Mudd. I'll be watching these guys closely.

        Overhyped or overpaid?

That was a horrible contract Roseman locked Mathis into. I think it was a vanity move more than anything else. Roseman was so pleased with his own ability to identify a career backup who was capable of being a starter that he ponied up a RIDICULOUS $5 mill a season deal on the guy just to remind everyone that even the sun shines on the cow's ass twice a day.

Either way Mathis is a decent starter. Not a Po Bowler, not a stiff. And the fact that he is stealing money like he is and then pulls that IRS stunt just shows what kind of clown the guy really is. That contract goes through 2016 and he will have restructured long before then just for the chance to be a backup.

Herremans is finished and I didn't get all the speculation that he would all of sudden be able to play because he was moving to Guard. He has looked like he is stuck in quicksand for two seasons now. Apparently, the Linc has the same quicksand in the interior of the line that it does out on the hashes.

Tend to agree about Herremans on the down slope

But Mathis hasn't shown me anything over the last two seasons (except in one preseason game) that he is just a "decent starter."

Even in the abortion of an o-line last year, he was more than just a relative bright spot. I don't look at the Pro Bowl as the gauge of an olineman's effectiveness, more about where these new advanced metric sites like Pro Football Focus rank their play. I could be wrong, though.

I don't know the details of Mathis's contract, but they can probably get out of it if/when he inevitably falls without too much of a hit. 5 mil for a starting veteran guard in the nfl is top 5. And no, I do not think he is a top 5 guard in the NFL no matter what those nerdy stats sites say. No way, no how.

He's another of the unlikable assholes in that locker room to boot.

They paid him what they did to keep him from bolting to the Ravens, who apparently wanted him badly. Comparing how our season went for us vs. the Ravens, he was absolutely correct in asking for more cash than Baltimore was willing to offer.
