In my dictionary, that draft is listed as the definition of Busts, Chumps, and Jagoffs.

I shudder to think that Roseman may have been the "mastermind" behind the 2011 draft

You know he wasn't. The 2011 draft is what got Banner shitcanned. 2011 draft has Banner and Reid's stench all over it.
I really don't understand why you guys keep bringing this up? Banner was the subject of ire for years here. So was Reid. Now both are deservedly fired and yet you guys still just want to hate on everybody. It's fucked up. You'd think you guys would be happy finally.
But it seems as if you guys aren't hating, you aren't happy. In 2011 Roseman was pretty much a pr guy. Not much else. He had no real power. What he showed me this year is he doesn't have the same ego Banner had. He hired really good football people for the scouting department with tons of NFL experience. I think it will pay dividends. It's going to take three years though. Have some patience.

I do agree that we will have an answer on Roseman in a couple of years. You could be very well correct that the corrupting influence of Banner and Reid (FF) dominated the 2011 draft. But for right now I remain concerned.--------

I would note that by January 2010 Roseman had been named general manager after two years as vice president of player personnel, and that (according to his Philadelphia Eagles.com bio) he "oversaw a major overhaul of the roster, making it one of the youngest in the NFL. That revamped Eagles squad earned an NFC East championship."
Whatever Roseman's involvement in the 2011 draft, he certainly was the public face of that draft, going on to several media outlets to pronounce very strong and positive opinions which turned out to be spectacularly wrong.

I often wonder about his influence on the draft. The Ref is probably right, though.
I credit them with staying pat this year and taking one of the top 4 players on their board. That's an easy thing to do though, and Lane Johnson fell into their lap when the Dolphins took Dion Jordan. I firmly believe they had Dion Jordan ahead of Lane Johnson, so I'll forever compare those two players.
Barkley is a huge measuring stick for me as well. You can't teach arm strength. I'm still not sold on the guy, despite his pose and quick decision making ability which are pluses. With that 4th pick... they could have taken a safety.
The fuckin' draft is a sore subject with me. I was an Andy support despite his short comings, but his biggest failure is draft and talent evaluation. Kolb? Fred Mitchell? Graham? So much smarter than everyone else. You don't even want to no the players they past up ahead of Graham and Mitchell.

Well, I looked at it too.

The OT's could have been moved inside to G and Jimmy Smith looked great in the playoffs last year and is starting to blossom.

"Taking a guy universally projected for the third or fourth round in the second round seems to run against the way Howie Roseman has run the Eagles' draft since becoming the team's general manager last year. But this was not a strong safety draft, and the Eagles felt they would be taking a big risk if they tried to wait for the third to get a guy they clearly see as a future starter, probably at strong safety. He is neither big (6-foot, 198) nor fast (4.54-4.65 in the 40) for the position, but he is known as fierce hitter.
"We had a high grade on Jarrett. We took him where our grade was," Roseman said after the draft. "Really, when you talk to people around the league after you make these picks, nobody's saying, 'I can't believe you took this guy there,' they're saying - there's a lot of interest in the player.
"You've got to think about how you'd feel if you lost them . . . is it worth it to miss that guy? In this situation, we wanted the player. I think he's a great fit for this team, I think he's a great fit for this city, and I think he's going to bring a lot, on and off the field. I think people are really going to like him as a Philadelphia Eagle."

Carimi and Sherrod are nearly out of chances
Originally posted by Drama Queen View PostWhen looking at the draft and being fair to the needs of what the eagles were shopping for, they could have realistically taken Gabe Carimi OT who is starting for Chicago (draft 6 spots after Twat), OT Derrick Sherrod draft 9 spots after Twat, or CB Jimmy Smith who was drafted by the Ravens 4 spots after Twat.
The OT's could have been moved inside to G and Jimmy Smith looked great in the playoffs last year and is starting to blossom.
