You need them for experience, to develop leather skin. So I got started. Of course along the way you stop thinking about being tough and all that. It stops being the point. You get past the silliness of it all. But then...after...you realize that's what you are.

Ells and Slag seemed pretty damn optimistic after Twatkins' first year in that, "Watkins named to pro football weekly's all rookie team" thread Ells started.
What I remember from back then is that there was a lot of skepticism on the board regarding the selection of Watkins. Just like there was with the selection of Klob.--------

Pissing away your first round draft choice in a failed attempt to get a quarterback or a left tackle or a wide receiver or a pass rusher or a shut down corner or hell a good linebacker is one thing. Pissing away your first round draft choice in a failed attempt to get a freaking guard is another whole level of suck.

Haha.
I tend to get that way when its suggests that I love getting sprayed with baby batter.
I liked the pick and mostly because it was an era of need. Everyone including myself made fun of his age, which certainly suggests some concern.
I own it. I wanted it to work out. You could tell in the first year it wasn't going to.

Don't get me wrong, I like our neighbors to our north, but they are not known for being good football players.--------

As mentioned early, it appears that the 2011 draft wasn't strong overall and going after an era of need made drafting a good player more difficult.
I saw today where Carolina has only one pick left from that 2011 draft- Cam Newton.
Howie stressed that the draft philosophy going forward is to take the best available player and not era of need. I guess Barkley is an example of that.
