  • I truly believe that the Eagles' first round strategy was to...

...stay out of it as much as possible. If they had to stay in it, take players that they could easily control at the contract table. I'm telling you that money was the number one driver for these guys. Just look at the way they dealt with some very good players when it came time to pony up some cash. There's a reason why they were winning the cap bowl every year. It's the same reason they were attracted to T.O. He was dealing from a position of weakness when they got him. As soon as he's dealing from a position of strength, BUH-Bye!

The Eagles with the weasel always wanted cheap labor

The Trottier situation was a total fuck-up. Probably cost the Eagles another SB shot. And then T.O. was the last straw. The Eagles haven't been a serious contender ever since.

They talked to agents prior to the draft to get a feel about contracts before the collective bargaining kicked in.

Money, and character and a host of other perimeters netted the eagles a bunch of complimentary players.

If that were true they would have drafted safety Earl Thomas over a D Lineman, Brandon Graham. Safeties make half as much money as D linemen.

Look. The last few years the team was making a gallant push to add players to take FF over the hump. It was desperation time and it was dumb. (in hindsight) They started drafting for need which is usually a really bad idea.

They signed all kinds of expensive free agents which is also usually a really bad idea.

They screwed the pooch on Watkins. We get it. But people don't notice that the niners cut their first rounder from 2012 and the Pats just cut their second round pick (first pick of the 2nd round) from 2011.

Regardless, this cheap label is laughably outdated. Dumb, yes. Cheap, no way.

With the difference being that niners and pats hit on everything else, the eagles pretty much missed everything in 10 and 11. I don't think they drafted cheap, they just drafted really poorly.

Jessus! don't tell me you are that dense. Trotter was a probolwer LB when he went to Washington. The best LB Reid has had under his tenure for 14 yrs.

The Eagles and the weasel knew they fucked up and brought him back and he still made Probowl coming back here.

I guess you was okay with 50 yr old Levon Kirkland getting hosed in the NFC championship game. Joe Jerivicius short pass and took it too the house in front of Kirkland was okay with you? Got it.

They gave him a bazillion dollars and he played no better than Lavon Kirkland. Basically stole Snyder's money like every other free agent he signed.

And then he came back to Philly and played well again, suggesting that Trotter was not the problem in DC.

Kirkland was not even in on that play. The guy Jurevicious beat was FF's first aborted effort at drafting a linebacker, Barry Gardner.

They were bad, bad moves. Stupid moves. But they weren't done because of cheapness. Stupid can be expensive, too.

The buzz word was all-in. And they were. Problem was they went all in with a pair of 10's instead of a straight flush.

Sometimes there is no explanation for dumb other than being dumb. No point in trying to justify dumb.

All of the truly bizarre maneuvers the eagles were making eventually meant one simple thing, they are stupid. They mad a bunch of BOLD, IDIOTIC, maneuvers. Putting Castillo at dc was so bad, how someone other than Castillo didn't get fired for that is unbelievable. Who the fuck ok'ed that other than FF? Reaching in drafts and missing badly, it's almost like they were thumbing their nose at everyone else as they continued to bash their square pegs. Now Howie is side-stepping questions about who the man behind the curtain was for those drafts. Those two drafts specifically have put the eagles where they are (especially the defense). There was a GLARING need for safety and they missed twice in the second round (reaching badly on Jarrett) and the Earl Thomas thing is well known. They would have been better off putting names on a dartboard and throwing blindfolded.
