(and we all know this, but anyway) He said that what happened with the Eagles is that they started missing on draft picks and then in following years they were drafting out of NEED. What you end up doing is reaching on players who should be drafted in later rounds. So my question to you guys is this: Do you think the Eagles had a philosophy of drafting only for need? Not just because they had to, but because it was what they wanted to do. It would seem to be their M.O. since these are not far-sighted people. Their draft board is probably done in crayon. We also know that the other way to cover up these screw-ups is to go out and try to get free agents to fill the void. Nnamdi Asomugha is the perfect example. The Raiders knew something was wrong. You just don't let players like that get away if they are healthy. Still it created alot of hype. Nnamdi gets on SI's cover, it puts a$$es in the seats in Philadelphia. From a financial perspective, it was a win. Tons of free publicity, the city abuzz. The NFL is great at this sh*t.

Didinger had Twatkins ranked as the top offensive guard in the draft that year. Of all people, I don't think he should be criticizing that pick. If anything, Didinger was surprised after that draft that they didn't pick a position of need (i.e. cornerback or DE).The Eagles are boneheads. This is one of the top 10 biggest bonehead trades in the history of the NFL. - Chris Cooley 9/15/2010

I think they drafted for need starting with McDougal in 03 when Douglas left for Jax. Even Kolb wasva need pick because they got tired of McNabb getting hurt. Here's what I don't understand today. Reid has been quoted as saying he couldnt wait to get back to just coaching again. If that was the case and he really didnt want exec vp duties, why not tell Lurie to find someone else to take that part of the job from hum?
