My guess is that the loss of Williams is what caused the toughness to leave that defense. Or the loss of Reed and Lewis.

Not sure about that. The Eagles knew Samuel was very good but, presumably, thought Bambi was an upgrade. Who did the Ravens bring in to "replace" Williams - or did it not really matter?

Pollard, Kruger and Ellerbe should have been retained. Pollard brought toughness to the secondary. He was a dick like Sconce Williams, but he could actually play.

The Ravens had to cut a lot of players in order to resign Flacco. This was well documented. To single out Williams as the shitty, expendable player while all the other guys were colateral damage is hyperbolic.

Williams is a decent, not great, football player with a bad attitude. That said, he is the only player on this defense with any attitude, whasoever.

It can really only end up two ways

Either Williams plays decent, gets into some dustups and fires his teammates up or...

He sucks, takes unnecessary penalties, and is marginalized by players and fans

So why put up with the asshole part. Newsome is a damn good GM and as a former player, he puts a lot emphasis on locker room chemistry
