The load of morons responding to the article reinforces my image of that team's fans.

The way I look at it is I don't like the franchise and frankly, the name *IS* offensive so it's a no brainer. The guy who gave the team the name was a stone cold racist! He knew what he was doing.

Then you get to add in the Littlest Telemarketer saying he will never change the name and telling people to put that statement into all caps. Sickening... Sometimes I wish Overbrook was around. I'm sure he has something to say about that statement by TLT.

Then that f*ck Goodell comes out and defends the name, spewing some bullish*t about respect and endearment...

How come the Chiefs don't get flack for their name? Redskins is worse but I've often heard Chief used as a generic slur for native Americans.

Because R***kin is worse. A lot worse, IMO.

My job title has the word "Chief" in it.

                  Braves, Indians..

Heck, even the Fighting Sioux had to change their names even as Sioux tribes fought to keep it.

Many American Indians lobbied for the name and logo to be kept, arguing that they reflected a positive image for their tribes. Eunice Davidson, an enrolled member of the Spirit Lake tribe and member of the committee to save the nickname, was too devastated to talk about the result, her husband Dave Davidson said.

"I will be honest with you. I'm heartbroken and I'm ashamed of this state," Dave Davidson said. "On the other hand, there are a lot of wonderful people we have met in the course of this."

Much much much much much worse.

Chief existed as a word/title prior to it's use with regard to native americans.

redskin is a slur directed only at native americans.

                          Five muchs?

Chiefs refers to native americans also - you know the arrow on the helmet - and is considered a slur by many. I don't see how the NFL could come up with any policy that affects the redskins and gives the chiefs a pass. But that's probably underestimating lawyers and politicians.

Defend the name all you want. Frankly I wouldn't mind if the Chief's name went away as well.

But I don't think it's offensive in the same way. I don't understand conflating the Chiefs with the totally offensive foreskins.

                            Do I have this correct?
foreskin = totallly offensive, except in Maniac's opinion
Chief = not so offensive, except Maniac is outraged

I think the name chief is not offensive at all, it was given to the head of a tribe and never used to denigrate a person like redskin to an american indian or even yellowskin to southeast asians.
