  • It's The Players That Suck, Not Chip

I want everyone here to look at the roster and really think about the mess Chip Kelly was given this year to work with. This is going to take years. This is his 4th game and frankly this team could be 0-3 with many other coaches. They stink, they have 4, maybe 5 good players out of their starting 24. Even their kicker and punter sucks.

Look at Quarterback (Vick and 2 young bums)
    Look at Wide Receiver
    Look at Cornerback
Look at Safety (possibly worst in history)
    Look at Linebackers
    Look at Defensive Tackle
    Look at Defensive End

    I mean really? It's Chip?????

Is ripping Chip. It's the mediots, and frankly it's a simple ratings grab. Philadelphia is a top 10 media market and our fan base is an easy target. There has to be a big leap next year (especially defense) or I will personally be pissed.

They better get Chip some players on D then if they don't he should get pissed and tell Lurie to go fuck off then go back to college. That wouldn't be on Chip but be on Lurie for hiring Accountants and Lawyers to pick his drafts and scout football players. Howie Roseman should be the one on notice, not Chip.

It was chips call to keep and start Vick. It was chips call to draft Barkley instead of a quality defensive player. No argument that he inherited a weak roster but he is off to a questionable start himself. We don't know if Foles or Barkley can succeed in chips system. This should be the year that we found that out so a viable plan for next years draft and FA can be made. Instead he starts a QB who the world knows will never lead a team over a full schedule season and the playoffs....to anything near teasing a SB possibility.

Has to be through draft or trade

because the pickings are super-slim on the FA front. And we also know how that has worked out.

Any coach who was really interested in a long term job and serious about re building, would use this year as one of assessment. Those days are far behind Vick. I see a coach. Who was looking for instant success with his new scheme. Not one interested in creating a defense needed to compete in the NFL.

              Big leap?

He was handed shit on defense. You thnk a draft and FA will cure it. Tell us the players you want next year?

They need a safety, a nose tackle and a CB for this defense to be viable. Particularly at safety and nose tackle, the current talent level is so low it would be difficult not to improve at those positions if they choose to address them. We will see if they address them.

On offense, my priorities are long term QB (but IMO we really do not know what the Eagles have on the bench right now) WR, and OL in that order

The defense *has* to be better. Fewer 3rd-and-forever give-ups, LBs falling down/missing relatively easy open field tackles, more safeties in position to make plays.

If those things are not happening, the leap isn't big enough. Example: during the Chiefs game, I believe the defense gave up at least 3 third-down-and 15 or more plays. They also let KC march from the 5 and give up the back-breaking FG. Has to be some significant movement.

As for players, I already posted that there isn't anyone available via FA (and that has proven to be a boondoggle anyway) and they have to draft and/or trade. They *have* to get a playmaker or two, or several hungry, solid players.

I worry that Chip may be enticed by the prospect of drafting one of the QBs or even his old WR/RB Thomas and may miss out on someone who could really help on defense.

I agree with the priorities. The thing is, it will be hard to expect draft picks to step in right away and solve these problems. That's why its a 3-4 year project, realistically. It's not fair to think that everyone we bring in next year will be a home run. They may need two safeties and maybe one more LB as well.

I read a GCobb article that said the Eagles are not pleased with Herremans. That position is a must upgrade along with ensuring we have a compliment to DJax.

                        Chip owns Vick

He was free and clear of him. He made the decision to bring him back, then the inexplicable decision to start him.

I like the guy, but those two decisions exposed a fatal flaw in his thinking. There's no reason for a rebuilding-from-the-ground-up team with zero pressure to win now to start 33 year old Mike Vick at QB.

For me, that decision was like a bucket of ice water on any enthusiasm I had for the season. Wake me up when Foles, or someone with a modicum of potential, takes over.
