  • McCoy on Vick v. Foles

"I think in the run game, you want to take me out for sure and Mike Vick, you want to stop him, too," the running back said. "I think it's always something different when Mike is in the game. You see the spies they have on him and the defensive ends are slower to rush when Mike is in there. I mean, it's Michael Vick and he can take off at any given time."

That's why starting anyone other than Vick (when healthy) is going to be problematic for this Eagles locker room.

Nobody had to spy on Joe Montana or Drew Brees and I'm sure those guys don't have the leg to run either.

Not sure how to explain this to you, but I think you've seen Vick play for over 10 years now? Do you think Vick will get smarter and be able to read defenses, not take stupid sacks, take care of the balls? Even if he does real good, do you think he still got 5 years left in him to be the QB for this Eagles team to make it to the promise land??

If vick could just get the goddamn ball out faster ( I think some of that is on Kelly) he might actually be a perfect fit. He needs to become more efficient, not so much boom or bust.

Desean said that foles does a great job of throwing guys open.... but then caught himself and said they are just happy to win.

Riley Cooper would probably be okay with it.

this reads like a laundry list of "cliche things to say about Michael Vick".

last season the "take stupid sacks and take care of the ball" thing might have been an issue. not this season.

Vick's assets to the Eagles offense as constructed today are as follows:

              1) accuracy
              2) arm strength (and time of release of the ball)
              3) ability to scare opposing defenses with the run
              4) "no quit" attitude behind center

              his liabilities are:

              1) durability (or lack thereof)
              2) decision making (takes 10 000 years for him to find a receiver sometimes but I also saw this with the backups, so I may give him a pass on this, but often he chooses the wrong guy to throw to)
              3) ball security (less of an issue than it was last year as he isn't running as much but I don't think he's had the fumblitis he had last season)

all this "can't read defenses" crap is hogwash. he can read defenses, he just makes mistakes doing so.

it's really his durability that does him in. if Vick could make it through a season I think the choice is clear. anything else, Vick's above average. still think he's less likely to throw INTs than most QBs.

in any case, Eagles need to find someone who improves on the minuses of Vick while retaining most of the pluses.

wait, he can read defenses but he makes mistakes doing so? that means he can't read defenses.

and if 55% is accurate...then mcnabb was montana.

                  Yeah, he reads

The problem is it's predominantly only one read.

And if we're lucky, when he reads "covered" he runs.

Exactly, when Vick "locks" on a rec, Vick the Rec, AND the whole D, knows where that balls going.

With Foles, the D just doesn't get that head start, that is why it appears that guys are more open with Foles under center, I'm not making this up, rewind yesterday's second half and check it out for yourself.

amendment: occasionally makes mistakes (that are grossly micromanaged by a certain sector of fans).

how many times has Vick thrown a ball at the numbers or right in the hands of a WR only to see it dropped or pass through?

the defense also largely stopped giving a crap after the first "Eliterception"... just Eagles secondary grade coverage on some of those WRs.

I'll credit Foles if he does it against a better defense than the Giants

but he is at 53% and has been going down steadily since 2010. 62...59...58...53.

career is 56. he's just not that accurate.
