The Eagles took a playoff spot and ultimately made it to the NFC championship game because they had a tie instead of a loss.

Interesting point the article makes is that, though Redd didn't realize it at the time, and you can't blame him for leaving PSU, he went to a program with a coach (Kiffin) who was incapable of preparing him for NFL football and left a program with a coach (O'Brien) eminently capable of preparing Redd for the NFL.

Its a bad rule because games should not end in ties. Sports should have 1 winner and 1 loser. Soccer sucks for several reasons, the two biggest reasons are minimal to no scoring, and games that end in ties.
