Byrd says that he was surprised how aggressive the Phillies were. He said that there really wasn't a chance for any other team to get involved.

So...not only did they sign Marlon fucking Byrd but they were bidding against themselves and offered him a price so high that he and his agent were like "Fuck! Seriously?!?! We gotta jump on this one!"

I disagree on Gillick. How many of the "Gillick" players that were traded over teh years have amounted to anything in the majors?
