that Kelly will start Foles but have a read-option package for Vick that they will run here and there during games when Vick is healthy.

    IDK ... anybody buying this?

No. Can't undercut Foles like that if he is named the starter. Have to admit I have been toying around with the idea in my head though. Bringing in Vick for one series at some point to force opponents to prepare for the possibility.

So, basically making Vick a "wildcat type" option? I hope not, seems like the team is jelling pretty well as it is.

Although with that said, there are teams and games out there that Vick, at least on paper, matches up better with than Foles.

Unless of course Foles keeps putting up these numbers, he needs another big game though, jmo.

Does anyone think that maybe Chip is just trying to keep Vick in the mix so what value he has will remain?

        Yes.

If things get stale or stagnant in a game... I could see it.

It's an interesting thought. Maybe vick comes in late to close the games out to keep defenses honest in the read option?

Some time back when chip was hired, there was talk that vick would be in this role. or come in as a wide out, etc. Wildcat offense.

i could see it. at the end of sunday's game i was thinking that kelly would love to have a QB that didn't have the slowest 40 time in the past 4 years, and that's why he hasn't committed to foles. but man that would really undercut him.

I can't see it unless both Foles and Vick were to support it. But it would be telegraphing what you are doing. And having Vick in Philly in 09 as a Wildcat option didn't really work out.

I agree about telegraphing the play. If a defense sees Vick enter the game they will have a good idea that a read option play is about to be called and can adjust accordingly. Granted you can catch a defense off guard for a big play this way as well(ala Vick in the 2009 Dallas Playoff game). But I don't think it will be worth breaking the offense's rhythm during the game.

I'm not necessarily in favor of it unless Vick signed off as clearly being the "wildcat" and not the starter.

However, you are forgetting that Vick would be a wildcat who can actually throw if there aren't too many reads to make ... like on 3d or 4th and short.

it didn't but that was after he'd been out of football for 2 years. towards the end the season he started doing some decent things in the wildcat.

I'd be more interested to see Vick line up as a RB with Foles at QB. You could still run zone read fakes and even hand it off to Vick to launch it down the field.

Eh, remember we need this fragile dude healthy if Foles gets injured.
