They absolutely should have been patted on the back and still should be. Their starting QBs were John Beck and Rex Grossman. You do not win in the NFL without a franchise QB, so they did what they had to to go get one.

RGIII was universally considered an elite QB and some even started questioning if you take him over Luck. I'm not ready to call his career over. He's still not 100% and Shanny Jr is not calling the best plays. I think there's still a future for RGIII (if he learns to protect himself).

That being said, hopefully none of that works out as it would be best for the Eagles.

I'm not saying his career's over, but you don't trade 3 first round picks for a QB unless your team is already stacked. They got a QB, and now they have no one to surround him with.

The Colts and the Seahawks did it the right way. Build your team while drafting QB's until you hit on one or tank a season and get your guy.

Trading the picks would be of zero concern if they weren't paying the luxury tax. Their front office is atrocious (always has been) but I have no problem trading those picks for a franchise guy.

Colts are not a viable example. They had Peyton, he got hurt, they got Luck. At no point were they "building" their team while waiting for a franchise QB.
