  • Eagle In Ohio, I'm not giving that n00b ratings

So I'm calling you out here. Only someone who thought a meatball from Hawaii was the next Jerome Bettis wouldn't appreciate Sheldon Brown's contribution to the team.

I'll admit that I now see the value Asante Samuel brought to this defense, but Brown had two seasons where he was damn near flawless.

brown had some good seasons but i recall him being very overrated among eagle fans. he played on a much more likable eagles team, the magic of which didn't really expire until 2008. if i ran into one of the guys from the 06 squad on the street it would have been really cool. sheldon brown was one of those guys. but he was just a typically good, slightly above average corner imo. never made the pro bowl and never really deserved to, except for maybe 2004.

he was better than "slightly above average". Litoast got the picks and went to the probowl...but there was a reason he was called "litoast".

Sheldon was consistently good. Not a bunch of flash...but he was as solid as they came....and solid at the corner position means you are good.

litoast go the picks and went to the pro bowl in 04, when sheldon was very solid and possibly should have made it instead. but i recall seasons when sheldon got burned. the one season that lito put it all together was 06. after returning from his injury he got picks AND locked down opponents' top receivers. that was better than any season sheldon brown ever had imo.

I never said that he wasn't good, or that he didn't contribute

but in my opinion, Sheldon Brown's departure from this defense is not the reason that it went soft. He's not a B,C, or J, but he's not Deion Sanders either. I will concede that he's probably the last defensive back on this team that REALLY gave a damn about tackling, but he also seemed to get called for PI at the most inopportune times. I understand that's your man crush, but he wasn't the glue that held the D together. Also, for the record, I believe Nate Ilaoa was more of a mixture of Earl Campbell and Larry Csonka, with a little Marcus Allen sprinkled in, than he was Jerome Bettis

Brown's last season as an Eagle was shit. Up until then, dude was money.

I thought Sheldon was a damn good cornerback. Kid could tackle. He didn't have the interceptions like Lito, but he could tackle a runningback in the open field.
500 internet fights, that's the number I figured when I first joined igglephans. 500 internet fights and you could consider yourself a legitimate internet-tough guy. You need them for experience, to develop leather skin. So I got started. Of course along the way you stop thinking about being tough and all that. It stops being the point. You get past the silliness of it all. But then...after...you realize that's what you are.
